GENERAL POST OFFICE, LONDON.
2 April 1914.
Sir,
I am directed by the Postmaster General to send to you herewith a copy of a letter which has recently been received from the Chinese Post Office notifying the adhesion of the
Republic of China to the Universal Postal Union on the 1st
of last month.
It will be observed from this letter that, as the
result of this step taken by the Chinese Government, the
postal arrangement concluded between your Administration and
the Chinese Post Office on the 12th/29th of December 1904
must be considered as abrogated as from the 1st of September
next.
As regards the contention of the Chinese Post Office
that the Parcel Post Agreement concluded between Hong
Kong and China in June 1909 must likewise be regarded as
abrogated so soon as the Chinese Government carries out its intention of notifying its adhesion to the Parcel Post Convention of the Postal Union, the Postmaster General has
informed the Chinese Administration that, as your Office is
not a party to the Parcel Post Convention of the Postal e Postmaster General,
HONG KONG.
